The final episode of Tenspeed and Brown Shoe was called Diamonds Aren’t Forever. It’s really a shame this show didn’t catch on because both Ben Vereen and Jeff Goldblum were amazing to watch. The show was clever and witty, and while there was some ham and camp to it, mostly it was all good fun. There was just enough drama to the stories to

let this hour be called a drama instead of a comedy. Still, there’s no doubt that Vereen and Goldblum both let their comedic efforts shine.

This last episode has a nice guest cast, too, including John Hillerman, Thaao Penghlis, Camilla Sparv, and Dana Wynter.

Actually, though I watched the entire series when it ran, this is the only show that I have conscious memories of. I remember ...

      • the story of Lionel Whitney (Goldblum) dealing with his parents visiting. Hillerman and Wynter played his eastern parents, and he was so worried about their opinion.

Wynter is normally a really strong character, but here she’s always on the verge of fainting; that is, until she joins in on the action with a great blow in the last fight sequence. That’s just adorable.

        There’s more heart in

this show because of the parent angle and because it deals with following your dreams, which is what Lionel is doing. Sure, there are the usual gags with Vereen’s Tenspeed character, and there’s the drama from the diamond caper, but it’s the inner soul that makes this episode wonderful. It’s a pity it was the final episode, especially since it’s my favorite of the 12 regular episodes.
