Tenspeed and Brown Shoe: This One’s Gonna Kill Ya is the ninth episode of this Stephen J. Cannell drama about a private detective and his very unlikely partner in helping people. This episode has Lionel Whitney trying to solve a cold case. Lionel loves to fight for justice, and his quirks and motivations in doing so often are

the best part of the series. In the process of following through on his desire for justice in this hour, he and E.L. ‘Tenspeed’ Turner almost get killed.

John Anderson guest stars, and he does a great job. He has Lionel and E.L. running around in circles with no clue that they are being manipulated for much of the ...

      • time. Anderson’s one talented actor.

The big wrap up scene had some ridiculous moments in it, though. It was just too dumb. Basically, Lionel and E.L. were trying to get the bad guy with explosives and E.L. kept telling Lionel to throw the stuff too soon. Then the dynamite or whatever would fall back to their position.

It just felt juvenile to me.

However, I did like the tag scene which had Lionel investigating the Black Dahlia. It was a good one. Both this and the opening scene that sets up this current episode are interesting to watch. It’s not always easy to do think scenes where we watch someone puzzle something out, but these work.
