Here’ another classic episode, one that is so very Star Trek. Harry Townes as Reger is the main guest star in Star Trek: The Return of the Archons, from February 1967.

I also love the concept of the show’s beginning with the Enterprise investigating the disappearance of a ship from a hundred years before. It’s similar to what they do

in various other stories. This first time out how its interesting elements, especially a mysterious festival where the normally calm and peaceful citizens go absolutely wild with all kinds of normally inappropriate behavior.

What Star Trek: The Return of the Archons is often remembered for as well is being the first time when Kirk talks a computer into destroying itself.

      • The man is one powerful orator, and he makes his case well. It’s a wonderful scene.

The costumes are great. I think these suits really make the guys like great. They are very good looking. Kudos to the costume department, especially for Shatner’s outfit.

I love all of the unique phrases associated with this society, like being of “the

body”, hearing and obeying the will of Landru, and being absorbed. The actual lines are better than this description, but I think it’s a cool vocabulary.

Torin Thatcher is a kick to watch as Marplon. He just puts his whole body into it.

This is another solid performance and there’s something oddly appealing about watching the guys walk around like zombies.
