Star Trek: Journey to Babel is one of the legendary shows because it introduces us to Spock’s parents, Sarek and Amanda. Mark Lenard plays Sarek, a role he’d continue to play in the Star Trek movies as well as the spin off series, Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jane Wyatt is Amanda, and she’s delightful.

It’s such a bummer that she only reprised the role one time, and that was in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

The impetus for the show is a meeting of delicates to consider the admission of a new planet to the Federation. Along with just being bothersome, it becomes both a murder mystery and a story of ...

      • internal conflict as father and son come together for the first time in almost two decades.

–McCoy asking Spock about the Vulcan greeting is a hoot, especially since he couldn’t make the hand formation. Not everyone can.

–McCoy’s reaction to finding out Spock had a teddy bear growing up was priceless; Spock’s comeback was good, but I still think

        McCoy was right to tease.

–“They’re both stubborn.” Kirk to Amanda, and her response is golden — “A human emotion?” This show is full of exchanges like this and they are all great.

–The final scene in the sick bay is superb, both in the discussions about logic between Spock and his parents, and with McCoy getting the last word.
