Star Trek: Return to Tomorrow is one of the classics in my book. It’s a wonderful hour of viewing because it’s thought provoking and well put together. This is also the first appearance of Diana Muldaur in the Star Trek universe. She’ll appear in yet another of the original series shows and then becomes a regular for a season on Star Trek:

The Next Generation. In Return for Tomorrow, she plays an astrobiologist named Doctor Ann Mulhall.

The crux of the show is that three energy life beings, once human, want to build bodies to put their life forces in so that they can truly live again. It’s an intriguing and sometimes romantic notion. Watching it unfold is a delight, especially in the bits between ...

      • the two married entities, Sargon and Thalassa.

This show is a nice showpiece for two of the regular players because they get to go outside of their regular characters to portray these three energy forces. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy both took on a life force. For Nimoy, it was probably more fun since his entity was a bad guy.

        All in all, Star Trek:

Return to Tomorrow is a pleasant show to watch in that it’s dramatic and entertaining. The writing was solid, and this was a new twist on anything that had come before it. It shows a complete evolution of a race, and it includes the good and the bad. Shatner and Muldaur were great together, too, and the twist at the end was terrific.
