  • Everything is within walking distance, including the old shops downtown and even a ghost tour is available (though expensive $30, and that's just a walking tour and pretty boring)

If you’re traveling out to the Grand Canyon anytime soon, plan on one day being spent in Williams AZ and taking a ride on the old Steam Engine Train, Grand Canyon Railroad. I loved this train ride not only for the spectacular views, but also for the entertainment. Once you board the old train, you are immediately taken back in time

      to the old west.

But after the train leaves, watch out. That’s when you are attacked by a gang of train robbers.

When that gets sorted out, you ride through some of the most beautiful mountains I have ever seen. I really didn’t expect to enjoy a train ride this much but they keep you entertained the entire time and you will really want to take the trip again and again.

After you are done, make sure you stick around Williams. At seven oclock every night, they have an old west show complete with shoot out and bungling robbers, for free intown.

The only thing I would not do, is spend the night at the railroad’s hotel. Make plans for one of ...

the smaller places on main street (only a block or two away from the train station).

You will save a bundle on your room, the railroads hotel is very nice but nothing unusual and the price is definetly not worth it. Also, eat at one of the local cafes instead of their restaurant, which is high priced also.

      And the food

is pretty generic, considering you pay a fortune for it. Everything is within walking distance, including the old shops downtown and even a ghost tour is available (though expensive $30, and that’s just a walking tour and pretty boring).

So the train ride is more than worth it and afterwards, spend the night in Williams and enjoy the free stuff going on.
