Brielle is a nice small old town on 1 of the 2 Island of the province Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands.

It is located near the big city of Rotterdam, just south of the big industrial port area of Rotterdam. Though close to the Industry, you won’t notice this at all.

Brielle is an old city. It’s old city centre is a typical Dutch Vesting, surrounded by star shaped canals and soil wall. If you look on Google maps or so, you can see it’s nice shape. Brielle already existed in the year 1300

but the old city center looks like the years 1800.

Brielle has a great amount of monuments (old buildings, old houses) of which the St Chaterijne Church with its big tower can be seen from far away. In the summer season you can go up (not on Sundays) and review the city from above.

The main shopping streets are the Nobelstraat and the Voorstraat (1 street). The shops are in the old houses. Most of them are small fashion shops.

Brielle has a lot of nice Restaurants and Bars/pubs. I like Chez Andre on the ...

      • Turfkade for lunch very much. My preferred bar is the Abdij in the Nobelstraat. You can find people of all ages here (above 21 years). I tried many restaurants and they are all good, the I heard bad stories about cafe ‘t Hoekje and once experienced bad food at the Hoofdwacht (but in general not bad). Both at the Markt.

The best hotel is the new hotel The Nymph (Voorstraat). Though it is new, it is in one of the oldest houses of Brielle. It’s rooms are very spacious and have the

atmosphere of ancient times. I never had such a nice historical room for such a fair price.

when we went to the beach we often went to Slufter Beach, but that is closed until 2011. So I can recommend the beaches at the town of Rockanje, which you can reach by bicycle. It’s beaches have nice soft sand and are children safe.

In Rockanje and Oostvoorne you have beautiful and very valuable nature too: the Duinen van Voorne. It was really nice to walk through these woods.

Brielle has it all, I really had a relaxing holiday here.
