      TRUSTWORTHY

I first heard about the video game Red Dead Redemption several months ago and have been excited about it ever since. The whole idea of an old western shooter is fantastic, however, I had my doubts that it would be any better than previous attempts that had been made by other game developers. In the past, western shooter games had fallen short of living up to their potential, but that is not this case with Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar games delivered a jaw dropping take on life in the wild west.

From the first minute you start playing, you can see just how amazing the game really is. You are instantly captivated, and it feels as if you are really there. The graphics are stunning, as you stand on top of a hill looking over the dusty plains it’s almost as if you can feel the hot sun beating down on you. The visual aspect of the game is enough to keep you entertained for hours, but Red Dead Redemption is far more than just eye candy.

The game play is astounding. You get to live the life of former gang member John Marston as he seeks to bring justice, and right the wrongs that he has done. I was very impressed by the fact that you can choose weather to take the high road and gain the respect of the townspeople, or continue living life as an outlaw. Red Dead Redemption has an honor system that determines the respect you get. A high honor ranking helps you gain the trust of people and can make life in the West a little easier. The story line is extremely entertaining and very detailed. John Marston is on a mission for revenge against his former fellow gang members. The missions you carry out are nothing short of impressive. Not only do you get to follow the story line, you also get to roam around the expansive open world that Red Dead Redemption offers. Through out the time you spend traveling around the towns and open deserts you get the opportunity to preform side missions and ...

      • mini games. These side missions and mini games will help you gain honor, fame, and money. In Red Dead Redemption you have different challenges to complete that will give you more survival skills and upgraded weaponry. The challenges range from going out and hunting the wildlife that is all around you to picking different herbs throughout the desert. The wildlife in Red Dead Redemption is another aspect of the game that makes it even more entertaining. There are many different animals, some are harmless like armadillo, birds, deer, horses, and cows, however, some are dangerous and will attack you like snakes, coyotes, bears, and wolves. While roaming around, you have to be careful of gang hideouts, thieves, and other outlaws. If you run upon these outlaws you will quickly find yourself in a life or death gun fight. This aspect of the game gives you a creepy feeling as you explore the world around you. This eerie feeling is magnified after the sun sets on the open plains and you find yourself in the dark desert.

        The multiplayer

is something that I haven’t had the chance to fully explore as I have been busy with the single player, but from the little time I have spent on Xbox live playing Red Dead Redemption I can see that the multiplayer is just as good as the single player. There are many different types of games that you can play online like, free for all, team death match, and capture the flag. You also have the option of free roam multiplayer, which brings a different style of online play. In free roam multiplayer you can team up with your friends and take down gang hideouts, or go out for a hunt, as well as many different things that I have yet to try online.

I give Red Dead Redemption a 10 and recommend this game to anyone that enjoys open world games, or other shooter games. Even if the idea of an old western game doesn’t sound like something you would enjoy, I can assure you that it is one of the most fun video games that you will ever play.
