Lonavala and Khandala are greatest tourist spots and hill stations. Khandala neighbours Lonavala and both are surrounded by lovely Deep Valleys ,High Hills,Milky water falls, lush greenery and pleasant atmosphere that spread all over. These hill stations with 625 metres altitude are located at exactly 110 km from the Bombay international airport of India. One can enjoy the real beauty of nature here. Especially the beauty of early morning with fog spread over the green hills one side while cool breeze coming from other side is most enjoyable.

The evening also given the same importance. In the evening around 6 ‘0 clock ,a big crowd reaches the sunset point to experience the memorable joy behind the beautiful dusk. Inbetween moring and evening there are many interesting places to visit all over the Lonavala and Khandala. One such important place is Karla Caves.

      These are

known for their wonderful and attractive hand made carvings. These are ancient Buddha caves and biggest among the chaiya caves. Varoius forms of Gautham Buddha were carved over huge hand carved elephant forms. Old and elegant lion pillars ,welcoming tourists are more attractive at the entrance.

Entering into the huge Chaitya cave through the Peepal leaf shaped entrance gate and facing antique and surprisingly smooth stone pillars carved with elephants and human forms is an amazing experience. Other carvings include dancing pairs with windows every where. Tourists never miss taking photograph standing under high and semicircular roof of this huge kala caves. Tourists compulsorily visit ‘Ekaveera Devi’ temple situated at the entrance of the caves.

Apart from Karla caves, Bhaja and Bedsa caves which are situated around Lonavala. The other most exciting thing is horse ride. As lonavala and khandala are big forests earlier, they are surrounded by dark and huge ...

      • trees and bushes. Here tourists enjoy horse ride that lasts for about an hour to travel along the long path crossing bushes and trees on either side of the path.

Maintaining horses for the tourists has become livelihood for the many people who stay at Lonavala and Khandala. Tourists never forget to take rest by sitting beside fantastic water lakes surrounded by full of greenery. There are ample historic forts like Rajmachi fort,Shrivardhan fort,Manoranjan fort,Visapur fort,Lohagad fort,Tunga fort near and around Lonavala and Pune. Most scenic view points like a peak of high hills and deadly deep valleys surpises the tourists.

A ride in toy train that travel along a narrow train path situated between two hills with high altitudes is unforgettable adventure for any tourist. Shopping in Khandala and Lonavala is most interesting as they are many shops are filled with many handcraft

items exclusively for tourists. Lonavala and Khandala is famous for eatables Chiikis and Jams. Tourist never hesitate to fill their bags with yummy chikkis and jams when they return back.

Tourists visit this place through out the year. People rest here through out the summer, enjoy nature’s beauty, forgetting outside world. There is a rush of tourists during monsoon as water falls look more elegant in monsoon than in any other seasons. There are many restaurants and plenty of rest rooms available near and around the Lonavala and Khandala.

I visited this place with my husband and returned home with sweet memories of stunning beauty of Lonavala and Khandala, adventurous ride in toy train ,surprising carves and forts and bagful of chikkis and jams. You too visit this place. One more point ,Don’t forget to take Camera with you and avoid wearing high hills for safe journey. Good luck.
