It was our first day in St-Emilion, France, one of the premier wine spots in the Bordeaux region, and we were ready to go tasting. We bought tickets for a wine tasting tour from the St-Emilion tourist information center for 15 euros for approximately three hours of tasting.

We were excited to find out we’d be in an air-conditioned bus and that we’d learn about the wine and see some countryside as well.

We toured around the countryside for at least forty-five minutes, all

the while wishing we had a glass of wine in our hands.

Some people in our group actually fell asleep as most of the lecture was in French first, then translated into broken English.

When the bus finally pulled to a stop we were surprised to find we were in a vineyard in the middle of nowhere.

We listened to more about the making of wine and got back on board, thinking our next stop would definitely be a wine tasting.

      The bus drove ...

      • back to the city center and parked, and we were told we were to walk up the hill to the Chateau we were going to tour.

So far it had been almost two hours with no wine tasted and people were starting to get grouchy and thirsty.

When we arrived at Chateau Villemaurine, we were in for another hour or so of lecture, finishing with a tour of the underground caves, which were neat but at that point we were all dying for

        something to drink.

They poured us all one half glass of Bordeaux wine, one that they had not been able to sell because of its lower quality.

But they offered to sell it at highly discounted price.

After that they thanked us for coming and the tour was over.

We then had to walk back to the city center, as the bus had already left.

We ended up rewarding ourselves with some crepes and a glass of wine but everyone was extremely disappointed with our tour.
