This episode of South Park, entitled “Margaritaville”, is meant to be a satire on the response to the failing economy. As the world treats the economy as a living entity, the people fall do everything they can to not spend money as a means of appeasing this economy. This leads the episode down a path that eventually becomes a retelling of the story of Jesus, with Stan

playing martyr for everyone else. It is decently creative, but typical none the less.

Living as they did in Jesus’ time, the people of South Park are afraid to spend money, while Stan tells everyone that to stimulate the economy, they need to spend. He is met like Jesus is met, with hostility by leaders, and praise from the people. As much as I wanted to like this ...

      • episode, I am just getting sick and tired of the creators treating the show as a soap box for their personal beliefs. It seems like every other episode is a thinly veiled attempt to make a subtle point about todays society, and these points always seem to be painfully obvious.

While the episode has some great moments, the political point is made obvious early, and never brings any

surprises or wit. The point just seems beat to death by the end of the episode, and it really overshadows any kind of impact it could have had if it was kept more subtle.

Some funny moments make this one of the better episodes in recent memory, and while this does not say much, it is enough to watch it a few times and not be too disappointed.
