South Park has gone to great lengths lately to write satire pieces on current events and trends. This episode, entitled “The Coon”, follows Cartman dressing as a Batman like superhero, probably as a means of capitalizing on the success of the latest Batman movies. While not a completely awful episode, it is not as good an episode as some of the more recent ones. Not really boring, but too typical to be too funny.

      As Cartman tries

to become a town saving vigilante, the town seems not to notice at all. Dressing as a raccoon, he basically helps no one, and expects peope to love him for it. This is typical modern Cartman, one sided and two dimensional. Theres no point in him doing any of this, and all this plot point seems to drive home is that Cartman is a maniacally evil human being. The Cartman character has been turned into such ...

      • a villain that he even plays one when he’s trying to be a hero.

When a second kid in town becomes a vigilante, Cartman teams up with Butters to frame him so that he can have the spotlight. This part of the plot is seen a mile away, and really is too typical to be entertaining. As always, Cartman goes well out of his way to frame this mystery kid, involving crimes that would send someone to

prison for their lives, or face the death penalty. The writers seem to have forgotten that these are nine year old kids, and the whole thing is pointlessly outlandish.

While the plot isn’t really all that funny, the storyline does involve a lot of standard characters, which is something that most episodes don’t do these days. To be honest, it is the only thing that saves the episode.

Not awful, but not funny, this is a decent watch.
