Belgrade London
  • The only opposing company as I type is British Airways, and they would like to consider themselves a direct comparison
  • I'd recommend paying the 5% more and travelling on BA if money allows, however such a small company has been wonderful during the recent volcanic disruption

Jat Airways (spoken Yat) is the main airline in old Yugoslavia. It still operates out of Belgrade and the area and I’m familiar with if for it’s direct flights from London to Belgrade daily.

The only opposing company as I type is British Airways, and they would like to consider themselves a direct comparison.

The ticket prices and baggage rules are pretty similar, you get

food on the flight and though you may use the slightly less glamorous terminal 4 at Heathrow, rather than the shiny terminal 5, not a lot seems different.

However, what is written on paper is deceptive.

The company is much poorer, the planes are old and the staff much more abrupt.

The slickness of the BA machine makes the whole process look clumpy and badly ...

      • worn in comparison.

Serbians can be quite direct, and to the English ear can often sound rude and demanding, the staff being almost entirely Serbian (and will assume you speak Serbian at first even if you look painfully English) means that being ordered off a flight or having hand luggage snatched for weighing, is a occurrence I’ve started to become used to.

        But with

few options of how to get through to Belgrade, especially for those thousands of foreign visitor that descend during the Novi Sad Exit festival the route is still quite safe for the company to continue upon.

I’d recommend paying the 5% more and travelling on BA if money allows, however such a small company has been wonderful during the recent volcanic disruption.

Perhaps a littler company has it’s benefits.
