As I was on vacation a few weeks back in the Washington, D.C. area, I decided to take a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. For those that don’t know, this is a site where prominent U.S. military veterans are buried. The site is open to the public and overs several interesting features to visit. Besides the massive, unique headstones that are viewable while walking around the cemetery, there are several other items

      for tourists to see.

Probably one of the most famous of these items is the tomb of the unknown soldier. The tomb is guarded twenty four hours a day by a trained marine. Tourists are able to watch the guard go through a specific routine. There is also a pamphlet that provides additional information on the tomb.

In addition, you can visit the former home of Robert E. Lee who ...

      • used to own the property up until the Civil War. There are a lot of interesting features inside the home in my opinion. On the outside, you get an amazing view of Washington D.C and several of the monuments (including the Washington monument).

Also, you can visit the tomb of John F. Kennedy which is accompanied by a lit torch as well as an exhibit.

There are several paid tours that

you can take, but I decided to walk the cemetery. The walk can be a bit strenuous if you are out of shape, but not too bad if you are relatively healthy. In my opinion, this is a site that you should see if you are in the Washington area.
