Columbo: A Matter of Honor from season five has some good and bad points to it from my point of view. Ricardo Montalban is the primary guest star, playing bullfighter Luis Montoya. Pedro Armendáriz Jr. plays Commandante Sanchez, who Columbo ends up working with in Mexico. Also of note

is an appearance by A Martinez.

Here are a few thoughts and impressions:

–This is a rare occasion where a prior episode was mentioned. In Mexico, Columbo and Sanchez meet. Almost immediately, Sanchez recognizes Columbo from publicity about the cruise ship murder. Columbo responds, mentioning specifics from the Troubled Waters episode which ...

      • aired the season before this one. That was very cool. I adore continuity like that.

–On the other hand, I disapprove strongly of bullfighting so the overall story was a big negative for me. I didn’t like anything associated with that at all.

–Montalban himself is marvelous to watch. Good guy

or bad guy, he has enormous stature and charisma. He commands the stage. You can’t help but watch him with curiosity, if nothing else.

So, over all, this isn’t a bad show. It’s just one where the topic is disturbing to me because of the bullfighting background and incorporation into the theme.
