  • Except for the little piece of information that leads Columbo to the truth, which I think is a great catch on his part, there's nothing really fun about this show
  • Well, there is Columbo, and Peter Falk always makes him interesting to watch

Directed by Walter Grauman (had to mention that because I met him once), Columbo: Murder in Malibu was one of the 1990 Columbo movies. This one featured Andrew Stevens as the two-timing Wayne Jennings. He’s loved by the ladies, but he’s not really a nice guy.

Janet Margolin plays one of Jennings’ lovers, only she thinks she’s the only one.

She’s older than he is and she’s hesitant about marrying him. Once she gives in, she learns the truth. After breaking it off with him, he plots her murder. Margolin played her part pretty well. You could feel her unease about the situation and also sensed her jealousy, which while righteous was also unwarranted in a sense.

      Brenda Vaccaro ...

      • appears as the sister of the murder victim, who promptly gets involved with Jennings herself. It’s all rather sick and creepy.

The only paramour of Jennings I really liked, though, was Eight is Enough’s Laurie Walters. She didn’t have a big part, but it was fun to see her.

This show is not one that I like much. It’s all Hollywood

power play, and it’s really slick the way Stevens plays it. I’m just not that hooked into the story. Except for the little piece of information that leads Columbo to the truth, which I think is a great catch on his part, there’s nothing really fun about this show. Well, there is Columbo, and Peter Falk always makes him interesting to watch.
