Highway Patrol: Escort was somewhat interesting to watch. The basic plot was quite simple in that the California Highway Patrol was assigned to make sure that a prominent senator made his way safely to the hearings. The man is controversial, and some of the bad guys really want to see him dead.

      The fun of Escort

really is watching how the CHP reacts to the attempts to get to the senator and how Chief Dan Mathews is able to get the man where he needs to be. In fact, what they did was brilliant, especially considering the day. I didn’t see it coming, so I thought it was a hoot.

      There are ...

      • the usual chase scenes, or rather, moments when things got close to the escort. Somehow they made 30 minutes of this exciting.

Creighton Hale does a fine job as Senator Day, and Broderick Crawford is, as always, the powerful chief of the CHP. I still get a kick out of his commanding presence. This guy

wears a regular suit and talks really fast sometimes, but there’s no doubt about who is in charge.

Escort had a lot of action in it, all of which was pretty well done. I don’t really have any complaints about this first season episode. It surprised and it entertained, all of which is what television is supposed to do.
