The biggest release for the PlayStation 3 for the first quarter of 2010 wasn’t Final Fantasy XIII. Rather, it was God of War III, the third installment of the action adventure series starring bad-ass ancient Greek warrior Kratos. I picked up my copy as soon as I could get the money to buy one (Blu-Ray disc games don’t come cheap).

Graphics, as expected, are simply stunning. With the leap to the PS3 console, God of War III is really a lesson in scale and perspective.

You really get to appreciate the immensity of the battles—especially boss fights against titans and gods. Some of these buggers are even bigger than the stage itself. Everything is like an action cut-scene. That’s how vivid and detailed the graphics of the game are.

The gameplay from the first two games are mostly retained for God of War III. The game is made even more action-packed, and the improved cinematic work makes every battle even more epic. I don’t think newcomers will get turned off ...

      • by the game because it involves a healthy mix of action combat and puzzle-solving, along with a consistent dose of platforming. There’s more environment interaction, as well.

What prevents God of War III from being a perfect game? Well, there’s not much innovation in terms of the gameplay. There’s not much changed in terms of what you do in the third installment compared to what you did in the first two God of War games. The plot is also a bit of the same. Still,

freshness is well compensated for by the stunning visuals and still-solid gameplay mechanics.

There’s a reason God of War III is recognized as the most anticipated video game of 2010. Once you get your hands on it, it will simply blow your mind in terms of the sheer scale of the game. Couple that with epic action and you’ve got a winner. I highly recommend this game to PS3 owners who haven’t bought a copy yet. It’s a perfect ending to the now-legendary God of War series.
