  • Some levels look genuinely interesting and unique
  • This game honestly had some potential, but it’s all dashed away by some levels that force a 3d perspective on a game that is meant to be played in a 2d perspective and it completely ruins the entire experience
  • I can only recommend this to hard core Mega Man lovers who would buy this anyways, but otherwise, don’t even touch it

Yeah know, I am a pretty big fan of the X series, most of the games have been quite good, but this is easily the worst in the series and I honestly hate this game. This game sucks, it really sucks, and I wish it was never part of the series, it’s that bad.

First of as usual, let’s get into the graphics and to be honest they’re not bad. They’re not great or anything, they’re nothing to write home to mom about or anything, but they’re competent. The details on the characters, enemies and environments, while nothing special, are good and adequately represent the characters. Some levels look genuinely interesting and unique. One level has you jumping on a series of planes and it actually looks pretty cool. The graphics a crisp, colorful and jump out of the screen nicely and it looks how you would think a Mega Man X game should look in 3d despite being a 2d game for so many years. However! Do not let this

praise fool you! I was merely speaking about the graphics and while this aspect of the game looks good, graphics are aesthetic only and have no bearing on how the game is actually played. If there is anything I’ve learned as a gamer throughout all of these years, is that good looking games, don’t equal good games in general.

The story in Mega Man X7 is pretty simple and mirrors the rest of the X games pretty much except the fact that a new character has been introduced, Axel. He plays similar to Mega Man, except instead of using a Mega Buster, he uses different guns, and instead of being able to charge, he can shoot rapidly and in all directions. Anyways, X is missing mostly because X is simply tired of fighting so you spend some time with just Axel and Zero, but then eventually X comes back, so it leaves that sub plot as pretty pointless. Overall the story in this is just like any other Mega Man game. There ...

      • are 8 robot masters, you have to go kill them, and then you have to fight Sigma at the end. Nothing more nothing less, except for the addition of Axel to the trio.

The music is nothing special. The other games have had much more memorable tracks, and while this one doesn’t have a bad soundtrack, it’s just not as memorable as the other ones in the series, like the original or X4. The sound effects are nothing special either, pretty much standard fare for the series. Explosions, laser blasts, stuff like that; it’s all here and doesn’t really do anything new with it. Well it’s just sound effects so you can’t really do that much with it in the first place.

Now here’s where the game falls apart, the game play, it sucks. The game is divided into basically two parts, the parts of the game that’s played in a 3d perspective, and in a traditional 2d perspective. The 2d perspective to be fair is not bad and plays like a normal

X game but the 3d perspective? IS TERRIBLE. It RUINS the entire game and makes it very difficult to enjoy. First off, since you play as three characters, Zero, X, and Axel, these 3rd perspective areas make Zero useless. He has to get close to fight and this other perspective makes this an impossible chore, not to mention the other two who fight long range, have trouble aiming and you never get a chance to adequately attack anything, it’s ridiculous and stupid. Sure the 2d sections are good and fun, but the 3d sections rear their ugly head and ruin the game.

I give this a 3 out of a 10. This game honestly had some potential, but it’s all dashed away by some levels that force a 3d perspective on a game that is meant to be played in a 2d perspective and it completely ruins the entire experience. I can only recommend this to hard core Mega Man lovers who would buy this anyways, but otherwise, don’t even touch it.
