  • Ship Of Fools, a song by The Doors which appears on Morrison Hotel, opens up with an interesting rhythm and is then led by Morrison’s vocals on the song
  • I believe Ship Of Fools is a good example of one of those songs where the music and the vocals just go together very nicely
  • In my last review for Take It As It Comes, a track which appears on the Doors’ self-titled debut record, I stated that the structure is pretty simple and there isn’t that much change going on the track, although it’s still an enjoyable song, but on Ship Of Fools there’s actually some nice changes going on throughout the song which shifts the overall mood and sound and keeps the track from sounding repetitive or redundant, a problem I believe a lot of bands can easily have

      • easily have. Similar to Take It As It Comes, the track obviously isn’t that musically complex or anything thinking about it, The Doors never really struck me as a band who would write these very technical songs and try to impress with musicality, The Doors would always just focus on excellent songwriting which they always managed to pull off. It’s one thing to be able to write these very
complicated and technical tracks, which is impressive of course, but when you can use pretty simple yet effective songwriting and come out with an excellent song, as The Doors did countless times, that’s when you know the writers are good. The problem with a lot of highly technical musicians is that although they can play and have excellent prowess, the writing lacks, The Doors would certainly not fall into this description.
