Adobe Fireworks tops Photoshop in graphic editing and web editing. It delivers a better experience and has more “web specific” features such as slicing.

Pros: Very easy to learn, with me learning the software in about two days.

Somebody who is experienced with Photoshop to begin with should have no problem learning

it in less than a day.

Unlike photoshop, importing pictures into a scene has never been easier, with just a drag of the mouse (the flipside is that if you need transparency you still have to do it in Photoshop or GIMP).

It has a nice “export” feature, where you can ...

      • generate the CSS and HTML files in a folder on your computer.

This process all takes about 3 or 4 seconds.

Cons: Slicing is difficult to master, which took me the longest to learn, as it is a crucial part of bringing a web page into an editor such as Expression Web or

        Dreamweaver.

There is no “snap” feature that works with Windows 7, which is unlike most applications.

My verdict: Get Photoshop and Fireworks both if you are web designing.

Fireworks is easy to learn and use, which is essential to every web developer.

Getting both together will save you less problems in the future.
