Chris McKann, president of 1-800-Flowers, was the center of the season finale of Undercover Boss. It was interesting to watch for a couple of reasons, one of which was the particular history of this flower company. Chris is the younger brother of the founder and CEO, Jim McKann. He was easy to identify with because even now, he still feels like the little brother.

      One

of the best parts of the hour was on the last day of Chrisundercover assignment when Jim decided to show up at the store. Here Chris was trying to do his job and learn about the inner workings of the job and Jim decides to play games, risking the cover. Well, I guess boys will be boys and brothers will be brothers, but as ...

      • the younger of two, I really identify with Chris’ frustration at the situation.

I also found it easier to identify with some of the comments from employees. For example, one lady from a store talked about how she had few customers because no one realizes that 1-800-Flowers includes brick and mortar stores and not just the internet. When Chris asked her about it further, she pointed

out that corporate marketing wasn’t giving her any assistance as all of their concentration was on getting consumers to the internet.

Quite honestly, until I watched this show, I didn’t know the company had regular retail stores, either. I had no clue. I thought all they were only online, so live and learn.

It was a good season ender, very positive and upbeat on both a business and family front.
