  • Unfortunately, there were some games that did in fact require a memory card, or as Nintendo likes to call it, the Memory Pak
  • However there are some games on the system that do in fact require a memory card in order to be played and enjoyed, and those games are Quest 64, and Mystical Ninja Goemon, and of those two, Quest 64 is quite the mediocre game, but Mystical Ninja Goemon is actually worthwhile and a very good game

The Nintendo 64 was a really good console, and one of the good things about it, was that most of the games on the system didn’t require a memory card, but the key word there is most. Unfortunately, there were some games that did in fact require a memory card, or as Nintendo likes to call it, the Memory Pak.

I want to first go ahead and say, that the amount of games that do in fact require a memory card, does not really justify a purchase of this thing. First off, let me name you some hard hitters on the Nintendo 64 that don’t even need a memory card. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, you get the picture yet? These are all great,

fantastic games on the Nintendo 64 that DO NOT require the use of a memory card AT ALL. However there are some games on the system that do in fact require a memory card in order to be played and enjoyed, and those games are Quest 64, and Mystical Ninja Goemon, and of those two, Quest 64 is quite the mediocre game, but Mystical Ninja Goemon is actually worthwhile and a very good game. There are honestly more Nintendo 64 games that do in fact require the Memory Pak, but other than those two, and maybe a few others I played as a kid, I honestly can’t remember. I advise doing a bit of research yourself if you’re serious about owning, playing and collecting games for the Nintendo 64. Luckily though if you’re just downloading these games for your Nintendo Wii off the very ...

      • awesome and affordable Virtual Console for $10 a game, which is actually a great price,( a little more though if the game is an import like Sin and Punishment) obviously if you’re doing it this way, this Memory Pak is useless as the games and files are all on the Nintendo Wii’s flash drive, or SD Card if you have one.

Anyways, these are pretty cheap and easy to come by these days, so if you do in fact have a Nintendo 64 with some games that require a memory pak, you’re not exactly going to be needing to cut off an arm a leg for one. These go for relatively cheap on some sites and you’ll probably find some at some mom and pop shops to boot for relatively cheap prices. Honestly though, I can really only recommend this thing if you found a

Nintendo 64 game that you really like (like probably Mystical Ninja: Goemon, that game just kicks ass) I don’t really recommend you go out and buy one of these since the majority of games on the Nintendo 64 don’t require one. In the end, I have to say this Memory Pak get’s a 5 out of a 10 from me. It stays at pretty much average. The thing itself is competently made so it won’t break, and there are some games that do need it, but for the amount of games that do require it, doesn’t really justify a purchase. Still, I don’t think it deserves a completely negative score because there are some good games that require it. So yeah, if you got some good Nintendo 64 games that need this thing, go ahead, but I advise not getting it simply because you own the console.
