The original NES controller is a controller specifically made for the original Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short. This is a rather old controller for an old console, but for the sake of people who want to get into collecting for this console, they should know how good the controller is.

For starters the controller is a rectangle with sharp corners. Not sharp as in you’ll get hurt or anything like that, but it can be uncomfortable, especially if you’re used to playing with newer controllers. The controller is a very simple design, but without the handles, it can be a

bit unwieldy. However despite this, after using it for awhile, you can get used to it not having any handles and holding the controller can feel like second nature. The controller, since it’s very old and the games, for the most part were very simple, so the controller had very few buttons. The controller has a directional pad, start and select and the two face buttons, B and A. The directional pad is a very good one. It’s sturdy, responsive, and feels good under your thumb. The B and A buttons are also really good buttons. They very rarely break and I
almost never see them pushed into the controller, or scathed in any sort of way. That also speaks to how well built the controller is in general. After 30 or so years since the controllers originally came into production, and they still work as if they came out yesterday. However this of course depends on the one you find, you might get unlucky and get a broken one, which is possible since these are rather old controller, but the chances of that are actually kind of rare since these controllers are just that well built in general.

Now save for very few games ...

on the original NES, the grand majority of them are intended to be played with this controller. There are some games that are played with other accessories like the Zapper, the Power Glove and the Power Pad. There are many more accessories but these are the main ones. So except for a few games, the most of the original NES library is completely compatible with the original NES controller, so for the most part, there’s really nothing to worry about concerning the compatibility of the games with your controller. If the game isn’t responding to your controller, chances are your controller is
      broken.

The original NES controller is a good controller, but suffers from the fact that since it’s an older controller, it has an outdated design that hinders any possible comfort of the controller can have. This is something can you can easily get over after getting used to the controller, but this is obviously something that some people can’t get over. In the end though I give this controller a 7 out of a 10. It’s a good controller for what it is, and rarely breaks, but the lack of comfort really hinders it. Still it’s one of the best controllers to use with on your original NES.
