Pomeranians are a small breed of dog that originated from Pomerania. They have long hair with an undercoat, a curled tail, and straight-up ears.

Pomeranians, whether male or female, are very lively dogs. All dogs, including pomeranians, do have different personalities but in general it can be said that Pomeranians are very uplifting furry friends.

Pomeranians generally come in two sizes, standard and miniature. The standard size reaches 18-25 pounds. The miniatures weigh much less at around 8 pounds. Pomeranians are known to have certain health problems. Prolapsed Trachea is common. This is what

is responsible for a snorting sounding cough. My pomeranian has these spats now and then without permanent damage. Hypoglycemia and Thyroid problems are also common in pomeranians. My male pomeranian has a thyroid problem. He was diagnosed about eight months ago but apparently had a problem for some time before that. I was informed when I took him in for his teeth cleaning and general blood work was run. His tyroid count was very low and he was given medication. It took about three attempts with different dosages to find the right ...

      • amount for him. My dog takes one half of one pill per night. That was enough to bring his numbers into the normal range. When the dosage was too high he was panting alot and constantly wanting to be petted all night and couldn’t keep still at all.

Pomeranians can be a joy to own but they can also have big dog personalities. My little guy thinks he is a big guy. Pomeranians also tend to bark more than some breeds. They tend to have a lot of energy and don’t like changes in

routine. In my opinion, pomeranians are not the best breed choice if you are wanting to buy a dog for your child. Most pomeranians I have known do well around adults because adults tend to their sensitivities better.

Pomeranians do not do well in hot weather, they need air-conditioned environments during summer months. They need to be brushed oftenly otherwise they get mats. Food choice is important to. My dog seems to do best with Science Diet.

As a whole, considering adaptability to families, environment, and health, I give the pomeranian a middle of the line rating.
