This movie, The Hollywood Mom’s Mystery, seemed like it would be a lot more interesting than it was. It’s a crazy set up, though, with some nonsense about adoption and motherhood. Justine Bateman stars as wife, mom, and writer Lucy Freers who turns sleuth to find the murderer of Julia Prentice, an actress who winds up dead in her swimming pool. Angie Everhart is seen mostly in flashbacks as Prentice.

      Proof

of the low production standards was a scene that was supposed to be at about 4:30 in the morning. Yet, the skies were blue as blue can be with daylight booming. Sorry, it’s not that light at 4:30 a.m., not even in Malibu.

There are a lot of recognizable names in this and because of that, I expected the drama to be better. However, nothing George Hamilton could do would make ...

      • this anything more than a B-picture, watched mainly by fans of the actors. Elizabeth Peña, Melora Hardin, and Andrew McCarthy were some of the other main players. They were okay, but I yawned my way through this movie. Martin Kove was in this, too, being overly dramatic and boring.

There is some mystery, but there’s a lot of stupidity, like when Lucy heads for that Malibu location, there’s a car very

close behind her. She never notices she’s being followed? That’s nuts. Then she gets pushed down the stairs and survives. So, the murderer let her live. What’s the point?

The big reveal? Yawn again, not to mention what is supposed to be the climatic ending. Lucy is barely running to get away and then instead of easily exiting the house, she just hides. Dumb and dumber.
