This is a story of Cecile Revel, a twelve-year-old peasent girl, who lives in France, who ends up living in the court of King Louis XIV of France. Known to history as the “Sun KIng”.

Cecile’s job is to care for Madame’s dogs,(who brought her to court after

Cecile rescued her) and be one of madames lady-in-waitng.

Even though she thinks that her dreams have come true with the pageantry and magnificence of court not everything is as though it seems.

She soon learns everyone must learn their places at court lest they forget and ...

      • be sent to the bastille.

Not only does does Cecile learn that she must learn her new position well but with etiquette but she she must cope with the death of her father.

Cecile’s story is one of pleasure and heartache that tells that not everything that looks

        woderful always is.

My review; Cecile:Gates of Gold, is a story that tells of how life was in the Versailles court of France.

An eye opener of life in a great period of French history.

A good story for girls wanting to read for what it was like for girls of another century.
