  • The best part of the book is the main character, Samuel Vimes
  • I like his intensity and his single-mindedness
  • However, the otehr characters who weren't guards all were sort of like real people and so it was interesting to see how they all didn't fit in

This book, Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett is the first book with the City Watch of Ankh Morpork. It’s really fun to have read, because then you get to know how Carrot joined the Watch - which is pretty funny, being that he thinks he’s a dwarf. Ankh Morpork, the setting, is almost a character because of the

way that the characters interact with it.

I liked a lot of the jokes. Terry Pratchett actually manages to comment on human characteristics and society while sort of being removed from it because, obviously, it’s a story.

I liked the dragon breeders. They were so absorbed in what they did that they didn’t really know what everyone else thought ...

      • about dragons.

The best part of the book is the main character, Samuel Vimes. I like his intensity and his single-mindedness. It’s so realistic and yet unlike real people. However, the otehr characters who weren’t guards all were sort of like real people and so it was interesting to see how they all didn’t fit in.

        The four guards as

a group make an interesting team. I like how they were so familiar with each other and so worldly while not being very bright at all. This book is an excellent set up for the next books in the series, which feel a bit more structured and a bit stronger. Still, it’s a good book on its own as well.
