  • To be honest, this was the most boring roast that I've re-watched lately
  • It's really bad when a comic in a bear outfit is the best of the bunch, and that's pretty much has bad it was
  • I would have expected better from Pyle, too, but I think he'd spent too much time in that buckskin he was wearing

The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast continued with the Man of the Hour, Dan Haggerty, best known as Grizzley Adams. The dais featured a few performers known for playing similar outdoor characters along with the usual suspects of ridiculous ‘why bother’ comics.

To be honest, this was the most boring roast that I’ve re-watched lately. It

was a blatant plug for the NBC series. Haggerty hadn’t even been around long enough for most of the country to even know who he was. It was a crazy excuse for a program.

      • bad it was. Seeing men like Orson Welles roasting Haggerty, who he’d probably never seen before, was insane. That’s basically how most of this program was.

The only one of note to Haggerty was Denver Pyle, who co-starred on the Grizzley Adams series. He talked about sidekicks and Martin ad libbed something about kicking

Pyle in the side. Did you laugh? I didn’t. Not really. I would have expected better from Pyle, too, but I think he’d spent too much time in that buckskin he was wearing.

This shameful Dan Haggerty roast should be roasted and tossed out, never to be seen or heard from ever again.
