  • I really didn't like the characterization speeches done by Ruth Buzzi (watching these back to back, this Laugh In character of hers is getting old very fast) and Charlie Callas

Danny Thomas was the Man of the Hour for an edition of The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, taped in Las Vegas. The only one on the dais that I knew of with a true connection to Thomas was Milton Berle. It’s not that he doesn’t know the others, but they are colleagues without any true working connection. It’s a pet peeve

      of mine.

After Dean did his opening bit, he welcomed J.J. Walker to the stage. I groaned. His 15 minutes of fame lasted way too long. Then there was Charo. No comment. She may be a classical guitarist, but that certainly isn’t how she got famous. Red Buttons was up next and then there was Harvey Korman. He ...

      • said he and Thomas were good friends. Korman had a couple of good lines in there.

I really didn’t like the characterization speeches done by Ruth Buzzi (watching these back to back, this Laugh In character of hers is getting old very fast) and Charlie Callas. For me, it takes away from the roast. I’ve never liked their bits here. I’d

rather see them on a regular variety show doing their thing.

Lucille Ball and Danny Thomas did a bit during her segment that was somewhat amusing, with Danny the straight man to Lucy being the gal getting the laughs.

The show wasn’t as exciting as I had hoped it would be, but then again, with so many unrelated folks on the dais, I should have known.
