The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast honored the poetic Muhammad Ali on this edition of The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast. Naturally, Howard Cosell was there. You can’t roast Ali with Cosell. Those two were their own version of the old Martin and Lewis comedy team.

When Cosell spoke to do his part, it was riveting and quite active.

Ali was right in the thick of it. These two knew how to make waves work for them. What a hoot.

Freddie Prinze was terrific. He did a wonderful stand up routine at the podium. Most of it had little to do with Ali, but who cares? He was hysterical, and he ended with ...

      • a great Ali impressive. I just loved this segment.

The Red Buttons ’so and so never got a roast’ routine is tiring and overdone, but Tony Orlando did okay. I liked seeing him and best pal Prinze on the same dais. Billy Crystal was just okay. He had some hits and a few misses.

        Fellow boxer Floyd

Patterson was on and his was a challenging roast that had some heat to it. He was good.

Nipsey Russell had a really good line as respects pals Prinze and Orlando, saying that they all look alike, too. It’s a highlight moment that had the two Hispanics cracking up.

It was a good show, one that is definitely worth watching.
