Have Gun - Will Travel: The Gladiators was from the third season of this hit western series. Though black and white, the half-hour series holds up very well. This particular episode has a great message and is relevant in any era. That’s because stupidity, vainness, and arrogance continue to be part of our

      society.

In this show, a beautiful woman whom Paladin (Richard Boone) intends to woo and coo ends up hiring him to help her father, who has agreed to some silly duel. When Paladin arrives in the town, he realizes just how ridiculous the whole thing is. Sadly, the men proclaiming the duel are so wrapped ...

      • up in their so-called honor that they don’t realize that lives are at risk.

Paladin has some great lines towards the end, when people are shocked by the outcome.

James Coburn is wonderful as Sledge, another gunfighter who was hired by the father’s adversary. Sledge and Paladin have a great moment together, prior to the big finale.

Coburn did a lot of great television before he really gained his own fame.

Dolores Donlon is lovely as the daughter. One has to wonder if she and Paladin ever do get to their romantic evening, considering all that happens.

The Gladiators is a good episode. I wish it weren’t so relevant, but it is.
