  • I only take it as required, when the spasms get severe, so I experience no side-effects at all
  • Because I only take it as needed, it also is cost effective, and it is also inexpensive to begin with compared to other prescription IBS medication anyway, about $20 for 25 pills
  • It also doesn’t cost very much either, so I would definitely recommend it for people who are suffering from various types of spasms, so ask your doctor if it might be good for you

I have suffered from IBS for a few years, and I take Dicetel every day for it; while I do still get some symptoms occasionally, usually triggered by stress or dietary changes, I am generally happy with this medication. However, about 4 times a year, I have intestinal spasms so bad that I am either unable to leave home or even wind up in the hospital. It is not enough to up my dose of my daily medication, and finally, I was prescribed a medication that really helps during these attacks. Called Buscopan, this medication seems to stop the spasms and relieve the pain quite quickly, usually within a half an hour. I wish I had discovered this

medication earlier, because I would’ve had a lot less pain. The nice thing about this as well is that it is not something I have to take every day; I only take it as required, when the spasms get severe, so I experience no side-effects at all. Because I only take it as needed, it also is cost effective, and it is also inexpensive to begin with compared to other prescription IBS medication anyway, about $20 for 25 pills.

I can often tell when I am about to get an attack; the spasms, or cramping, usually come on slowly and mildly at first. So if I take two 10mg Buscopan pills as soon as I feel the spasms ...

      • (which feel like contractions in your abdomen), I get relief within 30 minutes or so. I am also able to function on this medication, because they do not make sleepy at all, although this is one of the side-effects. I also do not experience the other noted side effects, such as dry-mouth or dizziness, at all, so my daily life is not disrupted. I was surprised to learn that Buscopan is actually not just prescribed for IBS spasms, but also any spasms caused by such conditions as kidney, gall bladder and pancreatic issues. I cannot answer to if it works for any of those conditions, as I have never suffered from any of them, but it does help
me a lot during IBS attacks. I will also not, though, that it does NOT help menstrual cramping at all-I certainly wish it did, but I guess then it really would be a miracle drug.

Buscopan is meant to be taken at the first signs of various types of spasms, and not more than two every 6 hours. I experience no side-effects whatsoever, and I get fairly rapid pain relief. It is an anti-spasmic drug, so it is specifically just for spasms, not any other kind of pain. It also doesn’t cost very much either, so I would definitely recommend it for people who are suffering from various types of spasms, so ask your doctor if it might be good for you.
