Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl VHS This wonderful adventure film is one of my all-time favorites because of its imagery, well-chosen cast, and exciting, fast-paced storyline. If you like stories of the pirate era or any type of high energy adventure, it just might become one of your favorites as well. Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom are just some the familiar faces

you will see in Pirates, and their performances add depth and believability to the plot.

Johnny Depp also stars as the main character, handsome but eccentric Jack Sparrow (”Captain . .

      . that’s Captain Jack Sparrow”).

The story begins during the age of piracy, where the governor of Port Royale, a successful English colony in the Caribbean, is raising his outgoing daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth’s secret love is a blacksmith named Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).

When she is kidnapped by pirates, Will - and an unexpected ally - fight to get her back. Elizabeth is no mere maiden in distress, as she soon proves.

      punishment for stealing sacred gold.

Only one person can dissolve the curse and put these devious men to rest for all eternity. The storyline is well-written, the sword fight scenes and sea battles keep you on the edge of your seat, and the ending will leave you waiting for the sequel (which is rumored to come out sometime during the next year or so).

      This movie is

rated PG 13 because there are some scenes that children may find scary. The doomed crew of the Pearl turn into skeletons in the moonlight, and the scenes can be very realistic.

There is a small amount of blood but not enough to bother older children. There is the usual swashbuckling violence to be expected, but again, it probably would not be enough to deter children old enough to know “it’s just a movie.
