This 1972 comedy only gets funnier as it ages. Ryan O’Neal plays Dr.

Howard Bannister, a musicologist who comes to San Francisco to attend the annual convention where he hopes to win a scholarship for his studies of the musical potential of the igneous rocks (yes, that’s right - he believes that primitive men were

able to make music with the help of such rocks).

He travels with his sharp, controlling fiancee Eunice Burns (Madelaine Kahn), and he’s got a suitcase full of igneous rocks with him.

The problem is that there are three other suitcases looking exactly like his, and their owners’ paths cross when they all say at ...

      • the same hotel, Bristol.

        These people are: 1) Mr.

Smith, a spy; his suitcase is filled with important government documents that he wants to release to the public.

        2) Mrs.

Van Hosten, a millionaire; her suitcase has got a priceless collection of jewelry.

        3) Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand), a disaster woman; her suitcase has got

        all her clothes.

Needless to say, the suitcases get mixed up, and everyone starts chasing everyone else.

Secret agents are after the government papers, thieves are after the jewels, Judy Maxwell has a crush on Howard Bannister and will stop at nothing to steal him from his fiancee.

Bannister is trying to get rid of her, which is easier said than done.
