I have some brown spots (age spots) and freckles on my face, which I obviously have because I didn’t always take care of my skin, and I admit the darker, larger ones bother me. I may be the only one that really notices, but I do cover them up with makeup a lot, (over my moisturizer containing sunscreen of course, I have learned my lesson), and have considered using laser treatments or peels to lighten them. My friend, who also shares the same concerns, told me about a product she had read about, called Brighter by Nature Skin Tone Correcting Serum, by Origins, and said she was going to try it out. I happened to be going to

the US for a shopping trip, so I decided to see if I could find it, and buy one for each of us. I have used Origins skin care products before, and really liked them, although I won’t spend the big bucks that they cost in Canada. I managed to find this serum at a drugstore in the states, and I did what I rarely do, purchased a somewhat pricey cosmetic item (it was $40 for a small pump container), without anyone I knew trying it out first. I bought one for each of us and took them home.

My conclusion after several weeks of using this correcting serum is that there is a very small, subtle lightening of ...

      • some of the darker, more noticeable brown spots on my face. The key phrase is very slight. I still have to cover most of them up with makeup, and they still bothered me when I looked closely at my face. I think brightening is definitely a more accurate description than lightening; the spots had a brighter appearance after about a week. However, I would certainly suggest that the benefits are slight and this product is almost as expensive to use on a long-term basis as getting some laser treatments or chemical peels. I would also say that there was no detrimental affects on my facial skin at all, as in stinging or irritation on the places where I
applied this serum. I have very sensitive skin, and this serum felt great. It absorbs well, and I could then wear makeup and moisturizer over it with no problems.

I would caution anyone who has some age spots that they dislike against believing the claims of any cosmetic company that they have a topical product which lightens these spots. In my experience, this is highly unlikely. However, my experience using Origins Brighter by Nature Skin Tone Correcting Serum showed me that the spots can be slightly (only slightly), brightened, which makes the spots less noticeable. This is not a miracle solution for sure, and it is expensive. I would give it a try, as long as you don’t have unreasonable expectations.
