The late President Cory Aquino has never really charmed me. When she was the President after the dictatorial leadership of Ferdinand Marcos, I was really hopeful this woman could bring in something remarkable to the Philippine government.

However, I was disappointed to see a weak President on her. Obviously, this woman was just forced by circumstances to take the highest position of this land. While she is an intelligent woman, I think the ability to rule a problematic government is obviously something she failed to show. While she was named Woman of the Year by Time Magazine and Awarded the Gawad Eleanor Roosevelt for Human Rights those are obviously brought about by the hype triggered by the historical EDSA Revolution that installed her into power.

      I believe

Cory made the biggest blunder when she freed political prisoners like Bernabe Buscayno of the New People’s Army and Jose Maria Sison of the Communist Party of the Philippines in her desire to fully implement her program of reconciliation but later the freed prisoners who have innate rebellious spirits became enemies of her own government.

I also observed that of all the Presidents she was the one who suffered to much with all the 6 coup d’ etat attempts to overthrow her from power that put her life and her family in danger. Aside from those political problems, it is in her time that the country went through tremendous disasters and calamities such as the earthquake of, July 16, 1990, strong typhoon Rufing, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo ...

      • in 1991, oil price hikes due to the Middle East War and widespread brownouts all over the country.

But Cory has been honorable all through the years of her reign. She ruled with zero percent corruption but that is as far as only she is concerned. In fact she did not even collect her salary as President. However, the people behind her served with corruption just the same and she was unable to curb this.

Well although not a successful public servant as far as my gauge is concerned, Cory Aquino as a person is worth of commendation. She is a very amiable and kind-hearted woman. Her kindheartedness is first felt by her immediate household helpers and that is a true gauge of a genuine kind woman. Many people

have tried putting up kindness by giving donations and assistance but with the hidden motive of displaying their good deeds in public so that they would get recognition and praise. But Cory is not. Her kindness is innate and it flows naturally. No one could see how kind she had been to her household helps and personal driver. But these people are living testimonies of the kindhearted Cory. If only for this, I would love the memory of Cory Aquino. It is very seldom to find a woman with kind heart. She has a wealthy root and yet she has a humble heart and a heart for the poor and the lowly. Indeed Cory Aquino deserves to be in the pedestal. She is woman worth of all honors.
