CHiPs: Trick or Trick is the Halloween show and it begins great, with 13 black cats running in front of the very superstitious Frank Poncherello (Erik Estrada). For Ponch, it only gets worse, but it makes for great fun as he deals with walking under a ladder and more.

      I’ve always remembered this

second season episode, in part because of the guest appearance of Bobby Van and Elaine Joyce, who were married in real life. Joyce plays a store-robbing ghost on this Halloween night. She’s quite memorable.

Mary Fran also guest stars as a woman who steals candy for any child dressed in a skeleton ...

      • costume. There’s a reason, of course. Actually, the resolution here isn’t all that complete for me, but it’s still a good bit.

One of the fun storylines has Jon and Ponch (Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada) coming into contact with some scavenger hunters. This leads to a fun conclusion. I’m

not sure it could happen today, but it worked back then.

There’s a lot going on in this show. Trick or Trick really shows some of the good and bad that the CHP faces on a typical Halloween. I’ve never forgotten this episode and consider it to be a good outing for the series.
