In CHiPs: Ride the Whirlwind, which is technically the last episode of season two, we get another new concept, that of riding trail bikes to try and capture the bad guys who using off road areas for their crimes. The program is initiated by Jon Baker (Larry Wilcox). He gets to have two co-workers to help him, and this is where I just don’t get the problem that provides

some of the intensity to the show.

The idea is that Officer Sindy Cahill (Brianne Leary), who has always wanted to be a motorcycle officer, wants to be on this special detail. Jon wants her as well, but she’s not at the briefing due to a traffic accident. Why does Sindy have to be there in order to be picked to be a part of the detail? That’s insane.

      • Why couldn’t Jon say that he’d already talked to her and she wanted to be on the program? Obviously, she’s not playing hooky.

I just don’t get the set up here and why her presence at the briefing, something that was beyond her control, would be a fact.

The story does take some turns and there’s surprisingly a lot of discussion of egos. The trail bike team isn’t all peaches

and ice cream. There’s some scuffling and disagreement, which is intriguing because that’s not usually how they play it on this show.

Sadly, this is Leary’s last show. She had a good screen presence. I would have liked to have seen her be given that spot as the first motorbike officer in this area.

This was an okay ending for the season. It wasn’t the greatest, but it did its job.
