Have Gun - Will Travel: One Came Back is from the third season of this western series. It opens with Paladin getting a fitting as the wealthy gentleman he is known as in San Francisco. That has nothing to do with the story, but I really enjoy these pieces of life that are so different from the gunfighter side that we see most

      of the time.

In One Came Back, character actor Strother Martin plays Carew. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Martin so clean in appearance before. I’m used to him as an older man with a bit of spit and un-polish to his characters.

James Coburn also appears as Jack Harvey, the true villain of the piece. There’s not much dimension to his character.

      • He’s just plain bad.

There’s a really inappropriate moment halfway through this story when Paladin (Richard Boone) is in the middle of the street with Carew, making his point about something. He laughs at the people, turns towards this woman who is not a part of the story at all, and touches her on both sides of her face. It was very weird and

it certainly wasn’t an appropriate action in any way. This dates the show to a part of time when women weren’t taken seriously. It was a very incorrect move on his part, and there’s no logical reason for it, either. Though harmless, it’s also a little disturbing to be honest.

All in all, even with the big guest stars, it’s just an average episode.
