In CHiPs: Crack-Up, Jon is injured chasing a couple of drag racers. We get some good time angst for a few minutes while we wait to find out the results, like we didn’t know he’d pull through. I love this kind of stuff, though. All that worry among friends is great.

      With Jon

hospitalized, this sets up a situation where Ponch needs a new partner and that turns out to be Getraer. There’s humor and drama in that with Getraer being by the book and Ponch being the risk-taking hot dog. One of the funny moments has them trying to read each other’s mind on what ...

      • direction to go. Naturally, they went in opposite directions. It’s a hoot.

While Jon is in the hospital, he is entertained by Phyllis Diller, who plays a comedienne. That’s hardly a big stretch, but they have some good scenes together. Diller actually gets a moment to do some dramatic acting, as well, so

        it’s not totally all laughs.

The unbelievable section is when Jon is released from the hospital and then he goes straight to work and is back on his bike. That just isn’t reality, not on the same day.

As so many episodes do, Crack-Up had drama and humor going for it and made for another decent performance.
