  • At approximately 14”Wx9”Dx4”H you won't have a problem finding a little niche someplace in your home
  • While the sound is pretty impressive for such a small system, I was rather shocked and slightly disappointed to see there are no bass or treble tone adjustments
  • The $500 price tag on this system is definitely hard to swallow but it does deliver quality sound from either the tuner or CD
  • True audio aficionados might refuse to trade their favorite system in for this Bose system but I have little doubt they will still be impressed

We have owned several music systems over the years, all ending in disappointment until we ended up with the Bose Wave Music System. I had heard the Bose Wave II System some years ago but selected this model because we also wanted the included CD player as well.

The system stays out on our kitchen counter so the small footprint and slick, contemporary design were a definite plus. At approximately 14”Wx9”Dx4”H you won’t have a problem finding a little niche someplace in your home. We could have selected either the titanium silver, graphite gray or platinum white system… we went with the graphite gray which is more like a soft black color. The color is a great match with our

stainless appliances and black granite counters.

The sharp clean look is further enhanced because the only noticeable feature on the front of the system when not in use is the large visual display with the digital time showing. The visual display will show the track, title and artist depending on the MP3 encoding on the CD. For those thinking about using this in a bedroom, the adjustable brightness and automatic nighttime dimming feature do a great job dimming the display down to a very tolerable level.

The Bose Wave Music System functions as a digital AM/FM tuner. The included remote gives you up to six preset buttons for AM and six FM stations. Unlike past failures with sound systems, this system’s tuner pulls in a strong signal eliminating the problem of messing with an antenna.

There are absolutely no controls or buttons what-so-ever on the radio making it necessary to use the included infrared remote control. The remote is slightly larger than a credit card and works all the radio functions. For us, the remote will operate to a range of about fifteen feet so long as you are in a line of sight to the radio.

The Bose Wave Music System is also an alarm clock for those with the need. Setting the alarm functions was a very intuitive and simple process. The system has a feature which ramps up the volume as you are wake to the alarm which is ...

      a pretty cool feature.

This upgraded Bose Wave Music System has an integrated single CD player. CD’s are loaded into a very inconspicuous slot in the front of the system. The front-loading design conveniently fits under our kitchen cabinets or any tight vertical spot where many top-loaders might fail to fit. The sound from our Bose satisfyingly fills the main area of our home, a space around 14′x30′ with vaulted ceilings using either the tuner or CD player.

Some internet reviewers suggest this system is nothing more than an over-hyped clock radio. I’m not one in this camp. While the sound is pretty impressive for such a small system, I was rather shocked and slightly disappointed to see there are

no bass or treble tone adjustments. This may explain those detractor’s comments. Despite this limitation you get an excellent full sound, especially bass tones.

We have owned the system for over two years and couldn’t be happier. The $500 price tag on this system is definitely hard to swallow but it does deliver quality sound from either the tuner or CD. True audio aficionados might refuse to trade their favorite system in for this Bose system but I have little doubt they will still be impressed. I have to admit, the system is over-priced but if you’re looking for a small audio system you still may want to check it out. Over-priced, yes but in my opinion… not over-rated.
