      The second episode of CHiPs about California Highway Patrol officers is called Undertow. One of the first things that happens is that Ponch is unknowingly affected by breathing in a bunch of nitrous oxide that leaks after a traffic accident. This makes him see double and become a little loopy. It’s pretty funny to see him cozy up to Sergeant

      Getraer and be even more happy than he normally is.

      One of the ongoing plots is a tow truck driver who prefers to rob women of their money and valuables rather than tow their cars. One of the things that makes these shots so easy to do is that for several years, there was a lot of freeway in the process of being ...

      • built. Shows like Adam-12 and CHiPs took advantage of this. I suppose they paid a fee to the state of California. Most of what we see is stock footage. That stands out pretty easily.

        The big side story concerns a basketball game between the CHiPs officers and a team called the LA Rams. Sports is a big part of this

        TV show and remains that way through its run. It goes back and forth, though, as to who wins.

        I do enjoy this show. The nitrous oxide reaction is the best part. Erik Estrada plays it well. It’s right up his alley. I’m not as crazy about the basketball game, but as I said, it comes with the territory.
