I found the story complex enough to enjoy myself, while simple enough that younger readers can understand the themes. (Sort of a something for everyone kind of situation). If you look deeply, there’s

      meaning and metaphors. But if you just read the story, it’s active and fast paced.

      • two main characters - one so self-absorbed she barely notices her children, while still trying to and wanting to be a good mother, and the other so focused on being a good example for her child and her child working hard.

        The different teachers were interesting too. I enjoyed how some of the things

        that happened in the book tied into the book, but many things were just part of everyday life. (Although part of the subplot).

        This book had a lot of different things going on. It felt like there was not just the one big secret that Kirsten uncovers so much as that every character has a secret.
