This movie is about Genevieve (Nia Vardalos), a flower shop owner who wants to prove that she is happy all the time due to her dating rules. Greg (John Corbett) is a new business owner in Genevieve’s neighborhood who cannot seem to find the right woman. When Greg meets Genevieve he lives by her dating rules only to discover that Genevieve is not as happy as she seems to be. The movie goes on to be the romantic comedy it hopes to be but fails miserably.

First, Nia’s acting in My Big Fat Greek Wedding was superb,

what happened here? She was over doing her giggly image, flaunting a fake smile all the time, and outright delivering the most annoying dialogues. She was trying to be a young, witty, oblivious to love kind of girl when we all know that’s hard to pull off even if you look as great as Nia does at 47. Her character did not suit her although she did look beautiful. This was, by the way her directional debut and she failed at entertaining anyone let alone the critics in Hollywood. The whole romantic comedy genre fits her ...

      • but this one was nothing but corny, lousy, and a big blunder.

Then There’s John. Handsome as he is, he cannot convince anyone with this character. It seemed at times that he did not know what emotions to portray such as the time when he had his grand opening of his bar. He tries to be romantic with Nia but it looked so fake that I honestly felt like throwing up. I wasn’t sure if he was being shy, or bold. Sure or unsure.

Bottom line, this movie is a waste of time even if you

like romantic comedies. Why it’s called I Hate Valentine’s day when the movie doesn’t quite revolve around the day, just gets mentioned a gazillion times is beyond comprehension. Oh and before we forget the rest of the poor souls in the cast. They had nothing to do in the movie, their presence was a waste of screen time. You could literally have no extras like this in this movie and still have the same turnout. Boring, annoying, and most of all the worst romantic comedy by Nia. I hope she can return to her image after this flop.
