While working my way through college, I took an awesome job planning special events, parties, and county based sporting activities. As a result, I was always on the look out for fun novelty appliances that I could easily be set up and incorporated into the event. One such find, was an adorable old fashioned cotton candy maker made by Nostalgia Electrics. I knew when I saw it that it would make a perfect addition to my other party appliances.

The old fashioned carnival style cotton Candy maker is bubble-gum pink, and reminiscent of by-gone carts seen in the early 1900’s. It even has a miniature cart wheel and old fashioned writing on it to give it more of an authentic feel.

      When you purchase the Nostalgia

Cotton Candy Maker you receive the cart body, or main unit, the large white bowl that slips over the base, and the extractor head which fits over the stem.

When you are ready to use the cotton candy marker you need only remove the pieces from package as it is mostly preassembled. Then, wash the large bowl in warm soapy water, dry and return it to the unit locking it in place with the metal tabs and by turning it counterclockwise. Next, you must put the extractor head assembly in, and you will see groves that have to align to a peg on the stem. Once the extractor head is in, the cotton candy maker is ready to go.

Making cotton candy is very easy,

      • and a whole lot of sticky fun! First, plug the unit in and turn it to the on position so it can warm up for at least five minutes. After it is nice and warm, turn it to the off position and pour a tablespoon of sugar into the center receptacle.

You can purchase cotton candy sugar made specifically for this unit by the same company Nostalgia, or you can create your own using a combination of sugar and powdered drink mix.

Once the sugar is in the unit, turn it back to the on position and watch as the unit will start to spin the sugar into flossy thread. You collect the sugary thread on a cone by twirling it inside the bowl

and then positioning the cone over the extractor head and rotating it until you have a respectable looking mound of cotton candy on top. That’s really all there is to it. Once all the sugar has finished, turn the unit off, wait until the extractor head has finished moving and then the cotton candy maker can be filled again for more use.

This machine is so cute; it can be used in a variety of settings and is guaranteed to make people smile. It produces colorful, lighter than air cotton candy that is sure to be the delight people of all ages. Although I had no trouble using it, I would say adult supervision is required, as parts can become hot and it does contain spinning pieces.
