      The fun part of Adam-12: The Adoption has nothing to do with the crime stories, but with a wager made between Pete and Jim. Jim wins the bet, so Pete takes the Reeds out for dinner. Jim was ready for it, too, not having eaten anything else. The next morning, Pete grins a

      little as he clears them for their shift, something Jim normally does. It seems our Officer Reed ate and drank too much, so the joke ends up on him a little bit. It’s cute, and I love how this plays out in the episode.

      The main crux of the show, though, dealt with black market ...


      • babies. It’s nothing new now, but back when this was done in the early 70’s, it was probably more shocking. It’s still a good story, but there’s not extra zap or mystery to it at all.

        The other story is also on the shocking side for the times, and the irony is that it’s still

        a valuable bit for today. It has to do with a coach giving his football players drugs to enhance their performance. In thinking about it, this story is probably more relevant today than when it was filmed.

        The Adoption is a solid episode with some decent guest star performances by Tom Drake and Jackie Coogan.
