  • Even though the 'instant use' property of gas grills makes them convenient, the trade off is not worth the price, I think, of the loss of charcoal cooked flavor
  • It has a lid holder so the lid can be held while you tend to your food on the grill, a generous working space, a tip out weather protected charcoal storage bin, it comes with wheels and locking casters which pivot (makes the grill very maneuverable),a wire bottom shelf, a stainless steel One-Touch cleaning system with ash catcher, a built in temperature gauge and this Weber is the kettle shape that has helped to establish Weber as the best cooking charcoal grill in existence
  • The Weber Performer is, in my opinion, the ultimate charcoal grill

I am an avid barbecue fan. I am also a Weber Grill fan. The performance and durability of Weber grills is well known, legendary even, but I do not like gas grills. Even though the ‘instant use’ property of gas grills makes them convenient, the trade off is not worth the price, I think, of the loss of charcoal cooked flavor.

One of the problems with using charcoal is having to use starter fluid. The odor of the starter fluid lingers and is absorbed by the food being cooked on the grill. If enough time is allowed for the

charcoal to cook down after ignition, the odor dissipates for the most part, but not entirely.

One way to overcome the properties of starter fluid is to not use it. One solution is the charcoal chimney. Charcoal is placed in the top section of a chimney shaped tube and wadded up newspaper is placed in the bottom and lit. The heat produces an updraft and lights the charcoal. GREAT! But this is a time consuming process. Another solutions is the use of an electric charcoal starter. These work fairly well, but they wear out quickly and an electric outlet must ...

Weber has provided the ultimate charcoal grill… The Performer! The Performer uses disposable propane bottles to light your charcoal. Just load the charcoal, turn the propane knob on, push the ignition button and the propane fire will light your charcoal in about 5 minutes (using lump charcoal). Then turn the propane off. You won’t need it until next cookout and each propane bottle will last for several charcoal starts. I get about 15 starts per bottle using lump charcoal which lights more quickly than do briquettes.

I love this grill! It has a lid holder so the lid

can be held while you tend to your food on the grill, a generous working space, a tip out weather protected charcoal storage bin, it comes with wheels and locking casters which pivot (makes the grill very maneuverable),a wire bottom shelf, a stainless steel One-Touch cleaning system with ash catcher, a built in temperature gauge and this Weber is the kettle shape that has helped to establish Weber as the best cooking charcoal grill in existence. The Performer has a 22.5 inch porcelain enameled bowl and lid. These kettles last for years.

The Weber Performer is, in my opinion, the ultimate charcoal grill.
