  • As I examine the differences with this team and the others, I think the difference from an amateur perspective are the lifts and spins that this team did
  • Again, though, they weren't as pizzazz and dynamic as the gold and silver teams, but I thought they had it over Domnina and her partner, who has been suffering from a knee injury
  • All in all, though, it was a solid competition, and I thoroughly enjoyed it

The Ice Dancing competition finished up with a rousing set of performances. I’m so happy to be able to say that the teams skated their bests. I might argue about the ultimate results here and there, but it’s minor and potentially very subjective. It would be hard to make a factual case in court, and for ice dancing, which has had a lot of scoring issues in the past, that says a lot.

      Canada’s Virtue

and Moir won the gold. They skated a beautiful routine. As I examine the differences with this team and the others, I think the difference from an amateur perspective are the lifts and spins that this team did. They looked to be more intricate than the others and with more complex transitions. I’m not sure they were better than the silver, but it’s a finite difference. They were marvelous.

      The silver went to ...

      • Davis and White of America, who were spot on with their routine. I’m not sure how they didn’t win the gold, except, maybe, the lifts weren’t quite as spectacular. Their routine was so dramatic with Phantom of the Opera as their music. It was rousing. It’s possible they lost simply because they were the first to skate in the last round. Then again, I can’t argue the outcome. Everyone was so
        good.

My biggest disagreement would be with Russia’s bronze winning team. I didn’t think they were anything special at all. I really thought America’s Belbin and Agosta should have had it. Again, though, they weren’t as pizzazz and dynamic as the gold and silver teams, but I thought they had it over Domnina and her partner, who has been suffering from a knee injury.

All in all, though, it was a solid competition, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
