I have a problem with the opening scene of Street Hawk’s pilot movie. We have two motorcyclists causing a police van to hit a building, turning it over so that it flies through the air and smashes down on the ground. It turns right side up and they bad guys rob the van, which conveniently isn’t even on fire anymore. What’s more, it’s not even smashed in like it had been. This

is very bad directing and detracts from the stunt work. It’s not a good way to start off a series, and that may be why this crime drama only lasted 13 episodes.

Rex Smith is introduced as rookie motorcycle officer, Jesse Mach. He’s a hot shot, riding in on his bike wearing a red cape and a Captain America type helmet. The boys in blue had been having some fun, making some bets with ...

      • their fellow officers. Mach’s comrade in arms is Officer Marty Walsh, played by Robert Beltran, who just looks wrong with his Star Trek: Voyager makeup on. Unfortunately, their captain catches them in the act, though they claim to be raising funds for a charity. Beltran’s character quickly is disposed of, which actually creates the angst and impetus of Mach deciding to go into the Street Hawk program.

Lawrence Pressman and Christopher Lloyd provide the meat

of the guest stars here, with Jayne Modean playing Mach’s co-worker at the police department. Her character was replaced in the regular series. I’m not sure if she was better or worse. Neither really shined in my opinion.

Basically, this show is just telling us all about the fancy motorcycle and the setup that will be used in the crime fighting operation. We also meet all the characters. It’s decent enough, but nothing extraordinary.
